TPT now
offers Direct Access by our
licensed and certified physical therapists.
Direct Access allows a patient to set up an appointment with a
physical therapist without a prior referral, thus streamlining access to
physical therapy services. In 2008,
Virginia enacted this change in legislation.
As of January 2011, 46 states had some form of Direct Access law in
effect. Direct
Access Certified Therapists are trained to recognize many different injuries and
disorders through differential diagnosis.
In many cases, Direct Access may allow for a speedier recovery. However, if the diagnosis is beyond the
therapist’s scope of practice, you will be referred to the proper physician
for an appropriate evaluation. It is
for this reason that we maintain a strong, open relationship with your
physician. If you
feel that you may benefit from physical therapy with or without Direct
Access, please do not hesitate to call our clinic for more information! Our staff will answer any questions that
you may have. *Some insurances, including Medicare
and HealthKeepers, still mandate that you have a
referral from a physician before beginning physical therapy treatment and
will not allow reimbursement.* |
